My friends, it is with a heavy heart that I’m writing this.
As previously mentioned, I’ve had a bit of computer trouble. I may be understating that a bit.
On Friday, my computer crashed.
Bad.
Really, really bad.
As of this moment, I have a nice machine that will surf the internet a bit (as long as I don’t need java or flash), and not much else. After doing the whole recovery bit with the computer, it now doesn’t seem to remember things… like the software just installed moments before to allow the printer or scanner to work.
And, while I enjoy surfing the net as much as the next person, it doesn’t really work for my purposes – namely, this comic strip.
I need to buy a new computer.
The plan right now is for me to buy a laptop that will be dedicate to, essentially, working on this strip, while the family buys a cheap tower CPU to run basically just the internet and games and word processing programs that they use most. I will work on the strip on the laptop, and burn disks that I will then use on the family computer to upload to the interweb.
Convoluted? A bit, but after suffering the loss in work that I did on Friday, I’m making every effort to make sure it never happens again. I will be buying an external hard drive, memory sticks, and CD’s to make multiple copies of everything.
Fortunately, all my original work in done by hand, so while I’ve “lost” the cleaned up digital copies, I can still re-do them.
Now, the bad news – this bump in the road is going to force the adventures of The Crimson Scarab to go on hiatus. I’m more bummed about this than anyone else, but I’m trying to look at the bright side. The holidays are a busy time, and a bit of a break will do me a world of good. I will hopefully be back up and running by January 2, 2009 – a little over two weeks from now.
In the meantime, I have decided that I will still post some type of blog entry on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It will help me keep you all aware of the situation, and I hope stops you, my loyal readers, from getting out of the habit of stopping in here three days a week!
So, the news is bleak, but temporary, and I’ll be able to overcome soon enough. Thanks to all of you for reading, and I’ll see you on Wednesday!
